What The Mirror Holds Secret
Clapboard was routinely used to cover walls long before home remodeling television shows turned America on to using shiplap wall paneling everywhere. Clapboard was commonly made of split wood and hung vertically in New England, as shown here in one of the Carll house’s washrooms. Only the house knows what’s been reflected in this gold-framed mirror over the years, and it’s a secret it’ll never be able to reveal.

Before Clothes Were Bought In Stores
Ms. Carll’s sewing machine is right here, where she left it. Given the number of barns on the property, it’s likely that the wool depicted here came from one of the farm’s own sheep. Given some of the dress forms found throughout the home, Ms. Carll appears to have been an obsessive clothing maker. Another lamp with an electrical cord is also visible. Carll would have been able to keep sewing well into the night if she wanted to do so.
